about
Newmaqualand is the first single from the second Spook album – Transparent, which will be released shortly, following up on Spook's first album – Because.
During the recording of the Gary Herselman and Die Lemme album – Rigtingbefok, which first featured this song, then known as Namakwaland, Warrick, sent me this mix (mix 4) of the song, that he was busy transforming into a dance experience, which I hadn't listened to due to technical logistics and only realised when I finally heard the completed album. The song remains my personal favourite on the album after some time. When Nkosi X came to visit us in Suurbraak earlier this year, he was kind enough to lay some of his rapid-fire stuff on Namakwaland, definitively birthing Namaqualand, the latest version. He has several recordings of his own work available (that are of a standard that is highly recommendable) and can be searched on Bandcamp as nkosiX66, or contacted via Facebook (profile Nkosi X Massett).
Francois van Coke, the one and only, features as the main voice on this version, as he did on the Rigtingbefok album. Herselman supplied a few chicka-booms and shit here and there....
The writing credits (Author and Composer) are split equally between the four of us this time, based purely on how much each of us built into the song.
Herselman's House for Sale album will be available on Bandcamp any day now. Blow Up, the free (for a limited time) first single from House for Sale, delivered by Chardonay and Herselman, is also available on Bandcamp. Chardonay can be contacted on facebook (profile Chardonay Hector).
Some of my other work, such as Rigtingbefok, Bones, Because and a few singles are also available on Bandcamp, at the moment under "Die Lemme", as is an album of RIGTiNGBeFOK remixes and instrumentals by the Kalahari Surfers. There are a number of videos from various projects he has been involved in on YouTube (search Gary Herselman).
All goodness to you.
Thanks,
Gary.

Herselman, a prolific songwriter, has produced various albums, from tight, punkish Chrome Sweet Chrome

He was founding director of Tic Tic Bang, S.A's first independent record company and part of the conscientising Voëlvry movement....more
